The Civics Center and Energizing Young Voters will collaborate to transform youth political participation in New Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Education has announced the resources of both organizations to local educational agencies across the state

Energizing Young Voters (EYV) and The Civics Center (TCC) are thrilled to announce their New Jersey statewide collaboration in support of high school voter registration this fall.

The two organizations began their collaboration in 2024, and this renewed effort deepens the relationship. Young people can preregister to vote beginning at age 17 in New Jersey. New Jersey law requires high schools to offer every eligible student instruction about voting and the opportunity to register. The NJ Department of Education and the New Jersey Department of State have announced the resources of both organizations to local educational agencies across the state.

The joint effort, in advance of a statewide election on November 4 promises to bring a transformational increase in youth political participation and voter registration to up and coming voters in the Garden State.

EYV is a program initiative of the nonpartisan League of Women Voters designed specifically for youth. It envisions a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate.

TCC is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with a mission to make voter registration part of every high school in America.

The collaboration allows the two organizations to expand their capacity for nonpartisan programming focused on high school civic engagement and voter registration, as well as information gathering and analysis, and the creation of data-driven solutions to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and to reduce duplication of effort.

“This cooperative effort is part of TCC’s commitment to supporting state and local organizing partners that have deep ties with students, educators, and policy makers in their communities and that want to bring student-centered data-driven solutions to improve voter registration and civic engagement in underserved communities. EYV has shown deep commitment to working with all stakeholders to make high school voter registration a lasting tradition with a life of its own.”

–Laura W. Brill, founder and CEO of The Civics Center

“With the joint efforts of TCC and EYV, high school students across New Jersey will have access to quality programming from both organizations and access to youth-led / adult-supported programs and opportunities that can change lives and communities. Collaborating with partners like TCC that work with high school communities across the country gives us access to resources and innovations that improve experiences and outcomes for students in New Jersey.”
